Award winning photographer Nila Onda has lived across two continents and produced a multi-faceted body of work ranging from documentary to fine art photography and experimental film.
A young cinephile and self-taught photographer, Nila built her first darkroom age fifteen and developed a passion for chemistry that led her to study alternative processes with Peter Fredrick, inventor of the Tempera Print Process.
She was born in Rome and lived most of her adult life in London working in film and television production, delivering image content for documentary, news & current affairs. She has directed narrative and experimental films, music videos and the documentary 'Babe in Toyland', a Dorian Gray parable set in London fashion Babylon.
A former film-production and photography lecturer at Westminster-Kingsway College, London, she has also run studio workshops in Holloway Prison, as part of a rehabilitation program for inmates.
She has two book projects in development: 'American Sufi', (in collaboration with Afghan British author Yusuf Misdaq) an inside view into New York's Sufi community, and 'Secrets of the Selva', a collection of nature's intimate moments captured in the Peruvian Amazon during a recent residency.
She currently resides in New York City.
